Tony Buttler
Tony Buttler was born in 1956 and joined High Duty Alloys in Redditch in 1974 as a metallurgist. For nearly 20 years he was closely involved in the testing of aluminium and titanium airframe and engine components for many of the world's most important aircraft and it was during this period that his great interest in military aircraft grew from a hobby into a passion, particularly in regard to their design and development since the mid-1930s.
In 1994 he took a Masters Degree in Archives and Library Studies at Loughborough University, and since 1995 has worked as a freelance aviation historian. Author of 23 books he has also written numerous titles in the Warpaint series of modelling books and a large number of articles for most of the popular historical aviation magazines. He also regularly presents lectures to the Royal Aeronautical Society and other historical aviation groups.
