Slow and ugly the Intruder would never win a beauty contest, but it was capable of lifting a substantial amount of ordinance and delivering it onto its target, day, and night, in virtually any weather. As an attack aircraft it served in two major conflicts, several minor skirmishes, and was the mainstay of the carrier attack force for almost 30 years. It had a remarkably short gestation period.
